MOSCHINO’S HISTORY

Moschino is one of the younger names in luxury fashion from Italy. Founded in 1983 in Milan, Italy, by Franco Moschino.
Franco Moschino was originally from a small town from northern Italy. He moved to Milan to study fashion design at the Accademia di Belle Arti.
Early in his career he worked as a design sketcher for Gianni Versace from 1971 to 1977. During that period he also did design consultin for firms like Max Mara and Aspesi. Then he designed for Cadette from 1977 to 1982.
In 1983 he opened his own company Moschino Couture.
Moschino rapidly became known for his bold and out of the ordinary designs. Some of his attitude and creations were seen as disrespectful to the world of fashion and he often was controversial in his approach to the fashion industry but at the same time that made his creations gain a following among people who felt the same way about fashion.
His creations would often make fun of things and be playful. Moschino was willing to take risks both with his designs and colors, as well as the materials he would use.
In the late 1980s his company became very popular both in Europe and the U.S., generating significant sales.
Franco Moschino died in 1994 at the age of 44 years.
After Franco Mochino’s death in 1994, Rossella Jardini a close friend, became the Mochino’s creative director. She was there until 2013.
In 1999 Aeffe S.p.A. an Italian Luxury group aqcuired part of Moschino.
Jeremy Scott became Moschino’s creative director in October of 2013, he previously had his own firm and was known for his shocking designs and had a list of very famous artists as clients. He also did several famous collaborations with Adidas prior to joining Moschino. He was there until March of 2023.
In 2021 Aeffe S.p.A. acquired the remaining portion of Moschino they did not own, gaining full control of the company.
In October of 2023 Davide Renee, who had worked for many years at Gucci, became the Create Director at Mochino, unfortunately he died of a heart attack just 9 days later.
In January of 2024, Adrian Appiolaza became the new Creative Director, he had previously worked at Jonathan Anderson, Chloe, Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu.
Moschino today is one of the most recognizable names in Italian Luxury fashion, known for its playful and out of the ordinary collections and the use of colors and materials other firms do not dare use.
The originality of their creations make them have a niche in the market and a following among celebrities and the affluent.
