Description: MARC JACOBS is considered one of the top 10 designers of fashion in the U.S. in recent times and is among the top 50 luxury fashion brands in the world. Currently, his product line includes Bags, Shoes, some Clothing, Eyewear, Watches, Fashion Jewelry, Beauty products and many accessories. His products are priced at the entry-level of high luxury fashion.

He was born and raised in the New York City-New Jersey area and attended art school in New York, he won many coveted fashion contests at a very young age, some of the most prestigious contests in New York City he was the youngest person to ever win.

Very young he worked as a stockboy at an avant-garde fashion boutique,  he designed his first collection for a fashion firm called for a fashion firm named Reuben Thomas, Inc.  He started his entrepreneurial career partnering with Robert Duffy, (forming a firm called Jacobs Duffy Designs), he designed his first collection under his own name in 1986 and won many awards.  After winning the awards, him and his partner Duffy joined the creative department at Perry Ellis (after the death of Perry Ellis). After winning awards for his first collection (in 1992) he went in an extreme direction designing a “grunge” collection, that collection was well received by the press but it was a commercial failure for Perry Ellis so he and Duffy had their business relationship with Perry Ellis ended. 

By 1994, with a new collection, he had his come back to the industry and success. His collection had the support of major supermodel names.

With his new success he became creative director for Louis Vuitton in 1997 and by 2007 had quadrupled their sales. During that time he also introduced his own collections under his own brand names.

By June 2011 he had won the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime achievement prize and the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the year 3 different times.

In the past few years, a controlling stake of Marc Jacobs company was acquired by LVHM (one of the largest luxury fashion conglomerates in the world), with Marc Jacobs still in charge of the creative portion. And that partnership has not been a success,  regularly losing money for the conglomerate, a conglomerate that regularly makes huge profits from its other brands (they own Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Celine, Bvlgari, Hublot, Tag Heuer, Zenit and many luxury names in fashion, wines & spirits, watches, jewelry and all sorts of luxury items, in all over 75 brands).

Marc Jacobs is a hit or miss big fashion name. Some collections will be a major hit and will be very well received and others will fail in a spectacular manner. However, the career of Marc Jacobs shows he cannot be dismissed. He is one of the biggest names in fashion in the US in recent times.
