VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE IS NOT A STORE, IT IS A SALES VENUE WHERE SELLERS CAN LIST/SELL THEIR ITEMS DIRECTLY AND VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE DOES THE AUTHENTICATION FOR THE BUYER.
Year Founded/Place:2009,Paris, France.
Categories: WATCHES, BAGS, JEWELRY, VINTAGE CLOTHING
Price Range: $$$$ to $$$$$ ($14.51 – $545,799)
About them:
Friends Fanny Moizant and Sophie Hersan came up in 2009 with the idea of listing the unused luxury fashion items from their friends’ closets. They noticed a very large percentage of the items in a typical closet go unworn permanently after just a few uses and there is a market for them with people who like vintage fashion or the concept of sustainable and re-used fashion.
Very shortly after starting the business they already had over 3,000 items to offer for sale just from their friends’ local closets in Paris. They originally named the company “Vestiaire de Copines” which translates to “the friend’s wardrobe”. In 2012, we renamed the company “Vestiaire Collective” right when they launched their UK operation.
Eventually the demand and success of the idea turned Vestiaire Collective into a worldwide operation.
They are a global community of over 9 million members in over 50 countries.
Their authentication process works this way: When an item is listed, before going public, their curation team first checks all the images provided for the pieces and the quality of product listing before they even go live on the site, then they select the best quality items. When a piece is sold the seller is requested to send it into one of their logistics hubs in the US, France or Asia. The piece receives a physical check from their quality control and in-house specialists. They inspect aspects like physical condition, the shape, style, materials, labels, serial numbers, but also review details such as engravings, stitching, and more. If the item passed their strict authentication process then it is shipped to the buyer ant the seller is paid.
