His ideas and originality in his products became iconic in the outdoors industry first in the US and later around the world. Among his accomplishments before his death in 1986 he designed down flight suits for the U.S. air force and army during World War II, he outfitted famous U.S. expeditions to mountains like Everest and Karakoram and extreme places like the South Pole.
