Description: Founded in 1937, by Bausch & Lomb. The sunglasses were born when a U.S. lieutenant asked Bausch and Lomb to build a set of glasses that could protect his eyes from the sun after having eye damage during a balloon flight. The final product was so good, other people in the U.S. military adopted them and they became famous when General Douglas McArthur wore them when he landed on the beach in the Philippines during WWII. After that Ray-Ban sunglasses became widely used by pilots in the United States Army and then by other branches of the military, then they became widely used by policemen and firemen and very common in movies. Due to their cult-like following, they have been very fashionable for many decades. In 1999 Bausch & Lomb sold the Ray-Ban division to the Luxxotica Group from Italy.
