Bvlgari, commonly known as Bulgari, was founded in Rome, Italy in 1884, by a Greek silversmith named Sotirios Voulgari.
He was originally from the Epirus region of Greece. He was born in 1857 and at the age of 24 he moved to Rome (1881). His family had generations of expertise in crafting silver items and he brought that expertise and knowledge to Italy.
In 1884, he opened a store in Rome, initially offering silver artisan products evoking Islamic and Byzantine art and adding floral elements.

By 1920 his activities became more aimed at creating fashionable and trendy jewelry, influenced by what then was the mecca of fashion, Paris.
His name and jewelry collections became well known as a symbol of status.
Between 1950 and 1970 many of the top celebrities in the world were seen wearing Bvlagri jewelry.
During that period they introduced their famous cabochon cuts on precious stones which they still use today.

Sotirios Bvlgari died in 1966 and his business continued under the ownership of his family.

In the 70s, under the management of his son and niece, the company began expanding in top luxury locations around the world like Paris, Geneva, Monte Carlo and New York.
By the 80s they began producing high end watches in Switzerland, by the 90s the began producing fragrances, then silk scarves, leather accessories and eyewear.

In 2011 they became part of LMVH, the group that owns many of the top names in luxury fashion and luxury goods.

Today BVLGARI is known as one of the top ultra luxury designer jewelry names and as one of the top high design watch manufacturers and they are known for incorporating their BVLGARI initials as well as snake related iconography in their designs. BVLGRI jewelry is known for the exquisite design, materials and quality; their watches offer very sophisticated designs with the most precious materials and latest technologies. Although their line of handbags and leather accessories is limited to a few pieces they are still highly coveted.

All BVLGARI products are known as symbols of status and high class.
